Geographically located in north-east Asia, Japan is an island nation. The four major islands are Hokkaido (northern region), Honshu (main land where Tokyo is situated at), Shikoku (smallest out of the four major islands) and Kyushu (southern region). There are four seasons in Japan: winter (December to February), summer (June to August), spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November).
Japan is divided into nine regions: Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Chugoku, Kansai, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa. Each region has its own distinctive characteristics.
